CATEGORY 1

(i)            Lateness to or absence from class at the time of roll call.

(ii)           Lateness to or absence from assembly.

(iii)          Improper and/or incorrect dressing, for example, flying of shirts within and/or outside the school compound.

(iv)          Long and/or untidy hair, use of decorations, painting of nails, etc:

(v)           Use of jewelry and cosmetics

(vi)          Loitering while classes are going on

(vii)         Using pidgin English during school hours / outside the school on uniform.

(viii)        Failure to disclose sickness promptly.

(ix)          Noise-making, nick names and gossiping

(x)           Failure to carry out or late submission of assignments or projects.

(xi)          Removal of official notice without permission.

(xii)         Littering of the compound or classroom.

(xiii)        Failure to participate in school activities.

(xv)         Truancy. For example, leaving the classroom during lessons without permission.

(xvi)        Coming out of the classroom without an exit card.

(xvii)       Entering and leaving the school through unauthorized routes. – e.g jumping over the fence.

(xviii)      Leaving the school compound during school hours without permission.

(xix)        Embarrassing others through unwanted or unsolicited communication.

(xx)         Pilfering and/or stealing.

(xxi)        Fighting with and/or verbal or physical handling of members of staff.

(xxii)       Fighting with and /or assault among pupils or students.

(xxiii)      Examination malpractice, spying, cheating, aiding and abetting, bringing in and out of unauthorized materials, communications with co-pupils or co-students

(xxiv)      Damage to school and / or private property, including breaking of ceiling boards, waste collectors (W.C.) fluorescent or bulbs, windows etc.

(xxv)       Impersonation and/or forgery e.g. signing parents/teachers signatures.

(xxvii)     Gambling

(xxvii)     False accusation/lying

(xxviii)    Unauthorized assembly/meeting

(Xxvx)     Rudeness or any other form of discourteous behaviour

(xxix)      Bullying / fagging,

(xxxi)      Fraud, for example, extortion of money and borrowing of money from fellow pupils/students, illegal collection,

borrowing of books, for prolonged periods.

(xxxii)     The possession and use of offensive weapons like bottle, knife, iron, a pair of dividers etc.

(xxxiii)    Failure to deliver official documents promptly and intact, etc.

(xxxiv)    Hanging out in the toilet or behind the school building

(xxxv)     Disrespect to constituted authorities Including prefects

(xxxvi)    Bringing and/or using cameras, transistor radios, cassette players, GSM, Immoral Magazines, Video tapes and any other material capable of constituting distraction from school activities.

(Xxxvii)   And others.

PUNISHMENT FOR THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF OFFENCES

CATEGORY I OFFENCES

Put offence listed under category 1, one of the following punishment may be given to any pupil/student by any member of the teaching staff or the school’s disciplinary committee or any member of the management staff.

(i)        Picking of papers in the classroom or the school premises

(ii)       Washing of students/staff toilets

(iii)      Removing cobwebs from the school building

(iv)      Grass cutting for periods.

(vi)      Standing in the classroom for a specified period of time not more than 40 minutes

(vi)      Kneeling down for a specified period not more than 30 minutes

(vii)     Emptying dustbins.

(viii)    Cutting of untidy hair.

(ix)      Sweeping of classrooms, corridors etc.

(xi)      Others

When a pupil/student commits the offence several times, his/her parents or guardian will be invited to the school for a discussion on the problem and possible solution. Where the above measures have been taken and the offender shows no sign of change, such a case may be recommended for suspension or the offence becomes an offence under category II and therefore attracts the necessary punishment listed under category II.

 

PUNISHMENT FOR CATEGORY II OFFENCES

1. The punishment for offences listed under category II must be carried out by the Head of school and vice principals. Suspension periods of any duration and expulsion, dismissals are subject to the approval by the school management.

(i)    Confiscation of materials or items that cause distraction.

(ii)   Suspension from certain activities organized by the school e.g. excursions, sports etc

(iii) Payment/Replacement of damaged school & private property.

(iv) Suspension from school.

(vi) Dismissal from school.

(vi) Dismissal follows two suspensions or series of warnings.

(vii) Gross misconduct like fighting, drunkenness or destruction of school property on the last day of examination by any student will be seriously dealt with. When JSS3 or SS3 students are involved especially in the last day of their certificate examination, in addition to being punished by the school authorities, their statement of results and testimonials can be withheld for a specific period of time as deemed fit by the school authorities.

 Again, any other important document sought by erring students such as transfer certificates, transcripts, verification letters, stamping of documents and letter of identification will not be given until the pupils/students are cleared.

 

CANING

The head of school and any other teaching staff assigned are empowered to cane any pupil/student for any of the categories of offences as and when the need arises.
